We are writing today to provide an updated statement related to the Covid outbreak at Labdara Lithuanian Nursing Home.
As of today’s date, we currently have one home area affected with 2 active resident cases and 4 active staff cases. Our two other home areas remain unaffected at this time.
We are saddened to report 2 residents deaths who previously tested positive with the virus. We know this is difficult news for our families, residents and staff. Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone who has had a loved one affected by this global pandemic.
We continue to work closely with Public Health to ensure that all recommended guidelines and directions are followed in order to deal with this extremely infectious virus. We continue to ensure that all necessary infection control protocols, screening and safety measures including PPE and increased cleaning and disinfection are followed to reduce spread where possible.
In addition, we have brought in additional resources and expertise by adding an IPAC Nurse, Nurse Practitioners and back up staffing to ensure our residents are provided the highest level of care and attention during this difficult time. All efforts are currently directed at containing and mitigating this outbreak.
The home is in regular contact with families and staff to keep them updated while we continue to focus on the safety of our residents and staff.
We continue to monitor the status on all residents twice daily and provide support to our staff that has been affected with Covid. We are carrying out regular ongoing testing of all staff and residents.
In the absence of a Provincial mandate for staff immunization, the home has implemented a variety of strategies within its power to promote vaccination of staff and residents. We require daily testing of all unvaccinated staff. In addition, we are continuing our ongoing efforts which include organizing information sessions with physicians from Public Health with staff to promote the vaccine, arranging in-house pop up clinics to reduce barriers to obtaining the vaccine for staff and ongoing promotion of the vaccine for all staff and residents. We will continue to do everything within our power to promote vaccination for our residents and staff.
The safety and care of our residents is our primary focus and all efforts will continue to be directed towards this until this outbreak is declared over.
