Volunteerism

Volunteerism means:

“Taking time out of your life to help someone else.”
“Putting the needs of others first, for a cause or something you believe in.”
"The act of giving back and providing help where it is truly needed.”
“Doing something good for someone else around the community for the benefit of others with no personal gain.”
"Putting in time and help without being told to do so..”
“Giving up your time to help people without being forced.”

Labdara has an organized volunteer program in place, which includes recruitment, screening, orientation, job-specific training and ongoing support and evaluation.

There are many dedicated volunteers who are diligent, yet there is much more that can be done with the help of additional hands. Most specifically, we are in need of "friendly visitors".  Many of the residents look forward to having someone pay them a visit, or perhaps take them for a stroll. If you are able to visit with residents, take them to activities or for a walk, please register with the Coordinator of Volunteers and become part of the Labdara Care team. The number of residents with difficulties feeding themselves has increased, resulting in the need for more volunteers willing to learn to become certified feeders. If you know, of anyone, who can donate their time for an hour or two at any of the mealtimes (8:00, 12:00, 5:00 p.m.), please encourage him/her to contact the Coordinator of Volunteers as soon as possible.   He/she will then set up some training times (at no cost to the volunteer) for the Feeding Course.

Music is very important to most of the residents at Labdara.   Musicians are most appreciated on a regular basis, as the residents enjoy taking part in singing and listening to traditional Lithuanian songs. They often relate better with others through the gift of music.  Musicians, who are able to play an instrument, are cordially invited to share their talents with the residents on a regular or once-in-while basis.

If you have any talents, gifts or skills, musical or otherwise, and would like to share them with the residents or other volunteers, please contact the Coordinator of Volunteers at (416) 232-2112 ext. 403. We are eagerly waiting for an enthusiasitic response from both younger and older members of our community.
