ANNUAL KUCIOS MEAL

ANNUAL KUCIOS MEAL BY MAIRONIS LITHUANIAN SCHOOL STUDENTS:
Every year the senior students of the Lithuanian MAIRONIS Saturday School prepare the traditional Lithuanian Christmas Eve meal - Kucios, for the residents of Labdara. The students make and serve the food to the residents. As tradition dictates, at the start of the meal, everyone shared the Christmas wafer “plotkele” with wishes for a good health and hopes that everyone will meet again next year. The students also made brief presentations about how they had prepared the meal. This year 20 students, accompanied by their teachers, under the leadership of Brigita Rucinskiene, came to Labdara. Our resident Rev. Kazimieras Kaknevicius shared his memoirs and Rev. Ed Putrimas led us in prayer and a brief meditation. Following the meal of traditional dishes made without meat or dairy, the students performed a musical Christmas concert. We all look forward to this annual tradition and thank the students and their teachers for the joy they bring to Labdara.
